Props! Production Day 4!

In our adolescent years, we acquire an entirely new set of things we own, otherwise known as props. I was inspired by the song sequence When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2. In this song, a toy witnesses her owner stop playing with her toys and growing up. Instead, she starts to play with nail polish and makeup. This part of the movie has recently become very relatable because as my interests transitioned in my early teen years, I found myself playing less and less with the things that used to make me so happy. As Annie is based on me when I was younger, I will use my own props from the dolls I still have.

These are the dolls I used to play with for a long time, even in my early middle school years. I distinctly remember wanting to throw them away, but I never did due to the connection I had with them. Annie will go through the same thing with these dolls in the sequence when her dad is organizing a garage sale and asks Annie to look through her things to see what she wants to keep, and what she wants to sell. This is where the sequence will end and cut to a black screen.

While most of the makeup Annie will wear will be applied off-screen, these are the beauty products she will apply on-screen. The lipstick is a prop that I actually bought when I went to a birthday party in 7th grade, so it brought back a lot of nostalgia. The eyeliner will be 'ghost-applied', which means I will make it seem like Annie is applying it but it has already been applied. Annie will be filing down her nails and putting on bright pink lip gloss as well.

The final prop I will use will be my phone. This was actually the 2nd phone I had ever owned, with my first being a flip phone. Since this is Annie's first phone, she would treat it with a lot of care so I will add a note on my script that whenever Annie is interacting with her phone, she holds it with both of her hands. She will use it to take pictures and text since that is what most tweens use it for. Although the phone won't be used much, I believe it is a small but important detail to show how Annie cares for her belongings.
