Production Blog 1: the Cars and the Ducks
Yesterday was my first day of filming. I live in a neighborhood with a canal along the walkway, which is where I shot the take of the group of ducks. Since I won't be shown in any of the car or wildlife shots, it didn't matter what I was wearing. I recorded on my phone camera and stayed a considerable distance away from the ducks so they wouldn't get scared and waddle away. Because of this, I had to zoom in on my phone, which made the footage a bit grainy. In the end, I feel like this drop in quality worked in my favor since the cameras used in the 80s weren't the clearest either. It added a nostalgic feel, like a home movie. I also stayed about 2 feet behind the line where the road and the grass begins to film cars passing by. My neighborhood recently had it's speed limit lowered, which is great for safety but not for my music video. I couldn't seem to get the type of shot I wanted with the cars zooming past. Instead, I decided to film them coming up and get the middle of the car with a very quick pan movement. In the final music video, there will be no diegetic sounds and the shots will go together smoothly.
