Production Blog 5: Wardrobe

When I chose Everybody Wants to Rule the World, I didn't factor in whether or not my wardrobe would match the 80s aesthetic. When I recently looked through my wardrobe, I noticed that if I put certain clothing articles together in ways I never did, it could pass as vaguely 80s clothing. The following are outfit options I came up with. There will be a corresponding scrunchie and earrings for each.

These jeans will be used in all the outfits since they remind me of what is known as mom jeans. Mom jeans were popular with, you guessed it, moms in the 80s and 90s, and are currently coming back into the fashion stage for a younger audience. Sweaters were a must-have, so I pulled out this sweater with a red heart pattern. I used a satin red scrunchie to go with it in case I needed to tie my hair back. Finally, I chose signature hoop earrings because they are timeless, and hoops were worn by a lot of people in the 80s.

Bomber jackets became a must-have in the 80s. As shown in the picture on the right, Princess Diana sported a similarly designed jacket as the one I have. Although mine isn't as colorful or poofy, it gives a sporty look to any outfit. Since this is a more earthy-toned outfit, I chose a brown scrunchy. The unadorned hoops complete this look and make it appear like an everyday outfit.

Recently I had gone to the Stranger Things experience in Aventura mall. There, I bought the Hawkins High School hoodie and the Hawkins Palace Arcade hat. The photo on the right is of one of the characters on Stranger Things, who is wearing the school colors that inspired the hoodie. The hat has a solid black background, with gold accents that go with the lettering on the hoodie. I chose the biggest, floppiest scrunchie because I wanted at least one aspect of the outfit to be exaggerated. I pulled the dangle earrings, only because I didn't want to rely only on my hoop earrings.
