Production Blog 6: Last Day of Filming Awkardness!
My set on my last day of filming was my front yard. This proved to be difficult since I was shooting during rush hour and everyone was coming home. My neighbors were coming home from work and people were taking their evening walks street by street. The reason I had to film at this time because I wanted the sunset to be in the background.
At the very beginning of the video, I can be seen looking to the right. This is because a lot of cars pass by my street, and I thought one was coming my way. My finger also slipped, and it made the volume of the radio much louder than I intended. I thought that if I had the radio with me, I could at least dance along to whatever song was playing, but instead, it was playing a Spanish Disney Plus commercial with no rhythm. Not only did this make the experience awkward, but my mom who was holding the camera was laughing at me (in a loving way.)
To the blind eye, this video doesn't seem inherently embarrassing. However, out of frame, my neighbor was watching me. She had just gotten home and wanted to see what I was doing. I really wanted to stop filming because I hate performing in front of people. Still, in the event that this would have been the take I used, I kept going. I learned from my last take because I switched channels for music, but this music wasn't any better. It was calm, Church-like Christmas music that I couldn't exactly dance to.
As I was making my stop-motion book stacking scene, I had it in mind that I wanted there to be a transition between this scene and the next. The only problem I had was making the screen go black in the last shot. I eventually figured out that if I use one hand to flip the page shut as my phone went down, the screen would be completely dark. In the final product, this transitions to me flipping through another book.
