Communicating Through the Language of Wardrobe, Production Day 1!
Before I can begin filming, I have to plan my wardrobe. Throughout the opening, Annie goes through multiple transformations. This is in part, her fighting the influences that target her and trying to find what style she really loves. While she knows she isn't a child anymore, she also isn't quite comfortable dressing as most teenagers do.
The above outfit I have chosen will be worn by Annie. This will be worn after she has seen the teenage girls at the mall and decides she wants to dress more maturely. Annie has never really worn hoops or a low-cut top, but since she saw the teenagers shopping at Garage, she decides she'll try their clothes on too. As she looks at herself in the mirror, she tries to exert the persona that she saw in the teenagers, but nothing is working, this leads to her trying on the following outfit.

This next outfit is chosen by Annie's friend as she tries to help Annie feel comfortable. The low-rise cargo pants take Annie far out of the comfort zone of her usual high-waisted jeans. The baby tee also creates a lot of insecurities for her, as she feels like she can't function properly with it on. With more skin showing than usual, Annie is confused on whether she should buy the outfit or not, this leads to her final outfit decision.
In another store, Annie and her friend find a T-shirt for their favorite artist, Selena. With the jeans she bought from Garage, Annie goes to the dressing room and tries it on. Instantaneously, Annie realizes she feels most comfortable in a regular T-shirt and jeans.
This outfit will be worn by the Guidance Counselor character. The reason I didn't include pants is that I will use a close-up shot. I also took this from my mom's closet since she will be playing the character. Since the character is written in the script to be a strict, no-nonsense, person, I didn't want to pull out a brightly-colored blazer with lots of personality, so I settled with a sleek black.
Finally, the Grandma character will be wearing this shawl. My own grandma will be playing this role, and she is a tiny woman. This is a huge shawl, so it will make her seem even smaller to add to the emotion I am trying to conjure up in her scene.
