Storyboard Blog

First Scene-  The music video will open with a radio that will be 'playing' Everybody Wants to Rule the World . It will the shot will start as a close-up of the volume notch, then the camera will zoom out to show the entire radio and its surroundings. Second Scene-  The following scene will be me playing the keyboard and grooving to the music. I will be wearing sunglasses and my wardrobe will be colorful and big. Third Scene-  I am planning on a shot of a car driving past, crowds of people, and potentially a plane taking off. This will be the final scene before the lyrics begin since the song I chose has a long instrumental. Fourth Scene-  This scene will be me lip-synching for a few quick seconds. Fifth Scene-  Since the 80s are known for their less-than-stellar production on some music videos, I made sure to implement a purposefully cheesy transition. Sixth Scene-  This will be a stop motion-esque scene with piles of books growing around me as I read them...

Props:  In alliance with the free-spirited professional music video, I will be using a car as a prop, my brother's bongos and keyboard, and maybe my guitar. Costume:  I will look through my own wardrobe to get inspiration for the video. Around two weeks ago at school, there was a throwback Thursday-themed spirit day and I so happened to have decided to be the 80s. If I decide to change my prior wardrobe a bit, it will probably be small changes like accessories and bigger hair. Schedule:   11/17/22- the storyboard will be finished, and I will have a clearer vision of what to plan for. 11/22/22- a set list is made, travel arrangments are set, and all needed props are packed 11/26/22- first day of filming, will consist of the lip-synching portions of the video 11/28/22- second day of filming, I will film car scenes and potentially planes taking off. If I cannot get a shot of planes flying, my next best option would be to get any type of animal in its natural state. 11/29/22-...

Research Blog: How to Music Video

Image
I will be doing a music video using the song Everybody Wants to Rule the World  by Tears for Fears. Even though I wasn't alive during the 80s, I think it's safe to say that this song emits a nostalgia that we all experience. The original music video made for the song has a lot of shots showing moving vehicles like a car and a plane. The band is playing the instruments contributing to the song. The 80's is known for big hair and over-exaggerated makeup and clothing with bright colors. Over-the-top lip-synching in pop music videos during this decade is common to launch emotion. Random, unexpected shots are shown in 80s music videos such as men in tuxedos dancing in front of gas pumps in a vacant space. Slow-motion shots are frequently used to fill in space. The fade-in/out, wipe, and ripple is used as a transition tool. This makes it easier on me personally, since they are simple transitions. This is illustrated in the photo provided.

In order to prepare for the final task, I will be making this music video by myself. This includes the research, planning, filming, editing, and final product. I am considering a couple of songs, including Let You Break My Heart Again by Laufey, I Feel Pretty  from West Side Story, and Everybody Wants to Rule the World  by Tears for Fears.

All About Shayna...Again!

Image
My name is Shayna Obando, and I’m in 11 th  grade. I’m passionate about history, film, and travelling. I’m thinking about being a historian since I learn about history in my free time anyways. Recently, I went to Boston and had the opportunity to visit the Boston Museum of the Fine Arts. There, I saw exhibits from Egypt, Greece, and Iran. Upon arriving at my hotel room, I realized how at peace I felt and since then I’ve considered being a historian. My love for film candidly started when I saw the 1961 adaptation of  West Side Story  with my grandma when I was 13. When the 2021 remake released, it instantly became my favorite movie due to the cinematography and music. An animation studio that brings me comfort is Studio Ghibli. I watched  Ponyo  with my mom one Christmas, and we both fell in love with the animation and message. One of my favorite composers is Joe Hisaishi, who composed most of the score used in Ghibli movies. His music tends to be playing...

Creative Critical Reflection

 1. My product placement uses  conventions by showing how the Nintendo Switch is versatile. It could be used as a stand-alone console, but the same device could also be used to join together family and friends. Furthermore, it can connect you to people from all around the world to compete and play as one. This very same reason is how it represents social groups, by showing that people socialize differently. It also encourages people to use the Switch to socialize more. The issue it combats would be the difficulty some people face trying to socialize. 2. The Nintendo Switch engages with audiences by showing both sides of the coin, the individual player and the consumers playing together. If this were to be distributed in the real world, I would think this would show as a YouTube ad or a commercial you see around the holidays. 3. At first, I found I wasn't comfortable in front of the camera. This was because when I do play with my Nintendo Switch, it's by myself and because I...

Our Nintendo Switch Commercial

Image
After planning and filming for a long time, our final commercial for the Nintendo Switch is out. Katherine edited it together and put the non-diegetic sounds over it. My final feeling is that we captured the feeling that Nintendo wanted to convey with their numerous ads for the console of the past. My understanding of what it takes to make a commercial is now greater than what it was before this project. My film vocabulary has broadened and made me more passionate about film in general.

Finally, we were almost done shooting the commercial. All we had left to do was the final dairy queen scene and the texting scene. The texting scene would have been the 3rd scene showing us texting about us meeting up. Like all the other scenes, it would have been around 5-seconds. For this, Katherine recorded her part with her Uncle. The clip is shown down below. Also shown is her bus driving away to show her going (movement) from her house to the Dairy Queen. Her uncle also drives off on a motorcycle is shown as well. Them meeting and playing together at the dairy queen is the final scene with the 8-bit musical sound.

Next, I had to make the 5th scene of the commercial. This was a challenge due to the movement of the car. We wanted to put in the extra effort of showing the movement of the car via the window because it would show we were traveling to meet up. At first, I felt it was near impossible to do, but then my mom suggested I put my small purse on the edge of it. This helped greatly and allowed me to record my 5-second clip once it was safe. I couldn't find a way to safely show myself playing the game, so I relied heavily on facial expressions to show how I was getting happier playing my game as well as being on my way to play the game with Katherine. To ensure safety to the fullest measure, I (of course) wore a seat belt and confirmed with my mom that it was a good time to place the phone and record. In the end, the video shown below is what I trimmed down from the 10-second take.

Due to school being canceled because of the unforeseeable Hurricane Ian, my partner and I decided it was safest to stay home while the storm passed over us. With that being said, we still took time to set up and charge our Switches. We filmed our first two scenes individually, and we sent pictures to agree on camera placement and lighting. We were able to document this in a series of photos. We cleaned our designated filming areas, wore the clothes we aforementioned, and set our phones on a stable place to film. In order to choose between multiple shots, we did different takes that were each about five seconds. We later video called each other to discuss the best possible shot for the first two scenes. Since music would later be placed over the scenes (and therefore the entire commercial) it didn't matter if there was diegetic sound in the scenes. This could include sounds of doors opening and closing, animals walking, or ruffling. This is the first scene, and I am playing Animal...
